Sumi KANEKO
“sumikaneko finds many of her motifs in Mother Nature.
Bubbles created by waves, raindrops and
other sublime glimpses of nature speak out in her works.
Nature has given sumikaneko a great variety of techniques.
One of them is lost-wax casting, which employs a mold made of wax.
Another is a technique called “awadome (bubble pave)”, in which the surface
of bare metal is engraved to create lovely glitters.
Also, is the art of knitting chains of metallic silk thread and other fine materials,
among other things.
In everything she does, sumikaneko relies on handwork and creates highly original pieces.
She insists on using materials that were made by nature such as silver, gold, pearls, diamonds, wood and leather.
She seldom, if ever, uses adhesives or other chemicals.”
